On January 20, 2023, Theatre IV students performed Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, by Greg Allen. The following day (Jan. 21st), the students performed at the VHSL competition and received 4th place!
VHSL--The Virginia High School League-- is the principal sanctioning organization for interscholastic athletic competition among public high schools in Virginia. Advanced YHS theatre students have the opportunity to perform in a one-act play for district, regional, and/or state high school theatre festivals. The public is invited to attend early performances of these shows, with the opportunity to offer comments to the director and ask the cast questions. Known as the longest-running show in Chicago history, the Neo-Futurists’ Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind by Greg Allen is a collection of 30 short plays that range in genre from hilarious to creepy with one goal: perform from a perspective of absolute honesty.
The plays are traditionally selected in a random order, using audience participation to select the next play. Due to the constraints of the VHSL performance rules, students performed 17 plays in 35 minutes in a predetermined order. There is something for everyone in this collection of comic, tragic, personal, and absurd plays! Look Back on Prior Years On January 22, 2022, Theatre IV students performed Badger, by Don Zolidis, at the VHSL competition and received fourth place. See you next year!
