Tech Theatre Day at Signature

Our Technical Theatre students got a backstage pass to the magic of theatre on Monday, September 22, when they joined Tech Theatre Day at Signature Theatre in Shirlington!

Students from all four APS high schools came together for a day packed with hands-on workshops in sound, lighting, and costumes—and let’s just say, it was anything but ordinary.

Want to know what bones breaking sound like onstage? (Spoiler: it’s just a stalk of celery!) Or how to make a shirt look like it’s been living in a swamp? Grab some paint, scissors, and a little imagination. Students also peeled oranges, ripped fabric, and tested sound cues, all while learning tricks of the trade from the pros.

Beyond the fun (and the mess), the best part was connecting with theatre students from across APS and seeing how much creativity goes into every detail of a production

The day wrapped up with an inside look at Signature in the Schools, an annual program that brings students right into the process of creating original theatre. YHS Theatre has been part of it for years—and now even more students know why it’s such a special opportunity.
