Audition Call for "The Play that Goes Wrong"

Looking for Actors Ready for Physical Comedy

YHS Theatre's Fall 2023 play will be The Play That Goes Wrong (High School Edition), written by Jonathan Sayer, Henry Shields and Henry Lewis.

What's the play about? Cornley Polytechnic Dramatic Society will present ‘The Murder at Haversham Manor’, and everything that could go wrong, does.

Looking for truthful, funny, physical performers who can commit to the style of the play and fully inhabit the characters. Actors must have a good understanding of comedy and improvisation while playing these play-within-a-play characters extremely seriously. These actors do NOT want this play to go wrong.

Please Note: This is a physically demanding show. Most roles will require varying amounts of crawling, lifting, running, and/or falling. There is also a sword fight and some hand-to-hand combat. We will be working with a professional movement/fight coach to ensure that this will all be done safely and properly.

Dates

  • Auditions: September 11th and 12th

  • Callbacks: September 13th, 14th, 15th

  • First Rehearsal: September 18th

How Auditions Will Work

Sign up for a Group Improv Slot where we will do some improv (yes, I know, don’t be scared!).

Really don’t want to do improv? No problem! Sign up for a Monologue slot. If you choose a Monologue slot: Prepare and perform a 1-3 minute monologue of any kind (published play, original writing, a song, even a recipe) where something goes wrong. It can be forgotten lines, an unexpected visitor, sickness or getting hurt (safety first!), ANYTHING is possible.
