Arthur Miller's The Crucible is a powerful exploration of mass hysteria and the consequences of paranoia during the Salem witch trials.
Set in 1692, the play follows the story of John Proctor, who grapples with guilt and morality as his community descends into chaos. The characters are driven by fear, leading to false accusations and tragic outcomes, reflecting the dangers of extremism and the loss of individual integrity. Miller uses the historical context to comment on contemporary issues of his time, particularly the Red Scare and McCarthyism.
Through intense dialogue and moral dilemmas, the play highlights the fragility of truth and the consequences of silence in the face of injustice. Click here to learn which Yorktown Theatre Arts actors complete The Crucible cast.
THE CRUCIBLE is presented by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC, servicing the Dramatists Play Service collection.
